WHAT’S UP WITH THAT

A reader wonders why the Weekly didn’t run a print review of the summer blockbuster Jurassic World, which opened June 12. Simple answer: The film company didn’t allow critics to screen the film until the day before it opened. (Normally, screenings happen weeks in advance.) Editor Mary Duan has two theories: Either the studio realized the movie was so bad they didn’t want word getting out before opening, or they thought the story of genetically engineered killer dinosaurs, starring Chris Pratt, was so strong, reviews wouldn’t matter.
