Over the last two years, since Monterey County Now launched our free, user-operated online calendar of events, you’ve been helping our readers find information on local concerts, plays, festivals and workshops. Thank you for your effort.

Recently, we learned that SceneThink, the platform that previously supported our digital calendar, has been acquired by CitySpark, another popular platform that allows multiple users to post events online. That means—for us and for you, our patient event submitters—that starting on Sept. 18, 2025, all events will be posted using CitySpark. To post events you will need to create an account on CitySpark, and use that platform to enter all the info—the what, the when and the where—for your event.

(Fortunately it takes only a couple of minutes to make an account, and it is free for you to use. Note that SceneThink accounts will no longer work after this date for posting on Monterey County Now.)

We encourage you to continue using our digital platform to post events and find events to attend, by visiting montereycountynow.com/events. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Starting on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, when you click the Calendar tab on top of montereycountynow.com, you can post events using the “Submit Your Event” button. That will take you to CitySpark where you can create your free account.

  • Once you make an account, you can start submitting events by using the red “Submit Event” button.

  • The form prompts you to add the event title, location, date and time, ticket price, and the category of the event (music, literary, arts, park events, etc.). There is a Description space reserved for more details, and an option to attach various media, from photos to social media links.

  • The rules of the game stay the same as they were with our previous platform. You submit, we approve (typically within 24 hours) and the event will be posted at montereycountynow.com/events

  • Keep in mind that we accept only events taking place in Monterey County; we are looking for arts and culture events, not events such as a weekly happy hour or food promotion, or things like political fundraisers. (You are welcome to submit any event for editorial consideration any time using our tipline.

If you have problems or further questions about operating CitySpark, please email Staff Writer Agata Popęda at aga@montereycountynow.com and we will do our best to help. For technical problems, please contact CitySpark directly at (801) 673-3286.

As you will see, the platform also offers the option of paying to increase the visibility of your event on the digital calendar. If you would like information about advertising your event in the print edition, please email sales@montereycountynow.com
