In Morse Code, three dots and a dash represents the letter “V” – a common signal for “victory” during World War II. It’s also the name of a classic rum-based tiki drink, one that Hula’s has put a modern twist on over the years.
The newest version, introduced this week at the new speakeasy-style bar next-door to Hula’s, features Appleton’s Special Rum, Falernum, allspice dram, lime and agave. It’s the same bright red hue as a Bloody Mary, and kicks a powerfully tropical flavor. Garnished with a slice of pineapple (plus a cherry and an umbrella), it’s reminiscent of pineapple-flavored Fanta with a strong citrus tone thanks to the lime, making it a little less sweet than other tropical concoctions here.
Hula’s co-owner Lynnette Griffin Ting considers this version to be a seasonal update: “It’s an exotic citrus cocktail with a spice profile of winter,” she says.
