Del Rey Oaks Councilmember Jeremy Hallock appears to be on his way out, as two challengers were in the lead in initial Nov. 3 election results. Shelley Cabanillas and Cheryl Parker were ahead of Hallock in a race where the two top vote-getters will win four-year seats on the council.

Cabanillas was in first place with 357 votes, representing 35.6 percent of the vote. Cheryl Parker was in second place with 344 votes, for 34.3 percent. Hallock had 302 votes with 30 percent of the vote.

Hallock joined the Del Rey Oaks City Council in 2022, and was running because he said he wanted to continue the work he began in his first term, especially overseeing the conclusion of work on the Fort Ord Regional Trail and Greenway, FORTAG.

He was especially critical of how work had been conducted by Graniterock, the contractor for the Transportation Agency for Monterey County.

"The city needs to hold agencies accountable in seeing that the work is finished as quickly as possible," he told the Weekly before the election.

While Hallock had council experience and Parker has a background in civil engineering with experience in public infrastructure, Cabanillas had less experience in public service, but expressed a desire to serve as a way to give back to the community.

She pointed to experience in working with people, including as a counselor, and as a community volunteer. She also pointed to her mixed heritage and desire to represent the Latina community if elected.

Also on the ballot was Mayor Scott Donaldson, who ran unopposed. As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, he had 504 votes. He will serve a third two-year term.
